Smurfit Kappa in Piteå

Ifa was assigned the responsibility for the design of a new, common control room with meeting area and canteen for two winder machines at the paper mill at Smurfit Kappa, Piteå, Sweden. The new control room was inaugurated during 2017.

Ports of Stockholm

In june 2018 the new BTC – The Control and management centre for the ports of Stockholm as well as locks and bridges. Ifa was responsible for the development and design of the new centre.

Stora Enso Beihai

Ifa was assigned the responsibility for the interior design of all personnel premises such as control rooms, offices and meeting areas for Stora Enso’s new board mill in Beihai, China. The mill was inaugurated in May 2016.

Boliden projects

Boliden has chosen Ifa as a partner for different development assignments.

From the last quarter of 2021 Ifa has been engaged in a pre-project to develop and design four production centers for the copper smelting site of Boliden Rönnskär. From each central a specific production area will be operated and managed. The goal is to achieve a more attractive work environment and a more efficient production. The development has been carried out in close cooperation with representatives of the personnel in focus.

Ifa has been involved in the expansion projects at the Boliden Aitik mine, securing an efficient infrastructure to optimize the preconditions for the development of world-class operations and maintenance. Ifa was responsible for the design of the Operations Centre for the concentrator. The Operations Centre is part of making the concentrator the most efficient in the world. Ifa has been engaged by Boliden Garpenberg in the design of the work places and workshops under and above ground. The new workplaces with control room, canteen, offices and meeting facilities at level 1054 were inaugurated in 2018. At the copper smelter in Rönnskär Ifa has designed the main Production Centre. Ifa has also been involved in the pre-studies for a new open pit copper mine. At Boliden Tara, Ireland, Ifa developed a proposal for the modernization of the existing control room at the concentrator in order to improve the functionality and work environment.

LKAB harbour Narvik

Ifa was engaged for the development and design of the mining company LKAB’s new operations centre for the loading, unloading and quality control in the harbour of Narvik on the Norwegian coast. The new operations centre was taken into use during 2016.

Preem refinery, Lysekil

The Preem refinery at Lysekil is the biggest in Scandinavia. Preem chose Ifa to elaborate a strategy for the development of the organization, work and work places. Emphasis is put on the aspects of security as well as on the development of the cooperation between operations and maintenance. One important result of the plan is the design of an Operations Centre for control room operators and field operators. The new Operations Centre was taken into operation in 2013. Ifa has since then been engaged by Preem for consequence analyses in relation to planned investments.

Mining industry Chile

Codelco, the world’s biggest copper producer has engaged Ifa for the development work within their mines El Teniente, Andina and Chuquicamata. For the smelter plant in Chuquicamata Ifa has designed a plan for the development of the organization and work place structure as part of an improvement program. At El Teniente Ifa has been responsible for the design of an Operations centre for the remote control of parts of the mine operations. At Andina Ifa is developing new concepts for the organization, work places and infrastructure in connection with a major expansion project. Ifa has also been engaged by the private mining company CMP in connection with the planning of a new mine.

Pulp plant Mönsterås

In the new Operations Centre for the Energy department, designed by Ifa, maintenance and operations are brought together. Great efforts have been made to create attractive premises for the complete organization within the department. The Centre comprises a main control room for 8 shift operators, mechanical and instrument maintenance and daytime support functions.

Forsmark Nuclear Plant

Ifa has since several years been involved in assignments for the Forsmark nuclear plant. Forsmark consists of three nuclear reactors. The assignments have involved development of work procedures and processes, premises and infrastructure.

Research & Development

Ifa is engaged in the research project HCRC, Human Centered Remote Control, lead by the Interactive Institute Swedish ICT AB and financed by Vinnova, Sweden’s Innovation agency. The primary goal of the project is to investigate how interfaces used for remote control within the process industry should be designed and implemented in order to reach improved efficiency, improved ergonomics and reduced machine wear. The project will take place during 2015-17. Other actors within the project are Boliden, LKAB, Atlas Copco, ABB, Oryx Simulations, AB, Minetec.

Ifa is engaged in the research project INCODE, Information and Competence on Demand lead by the Interactive Institute Swedish ICT AB and financed by Vinnova, Sweden’s Innovation agency. The primary goal of the project is to adapt and combine augmented reality, virtual reality och informative sound applications for improved efficiency, quality, work environment and safety within the process industry. The project will take place during 2015-17. Other actors within the project are Smurfit Kappa Kraftliner, Piteå, XMREALITY AB, IFS, ABB, Mälardalen University.
